History
As part of the Barony of Combe, The Manor House was very much the heart of the breathtaking medieval village of Castle Combe.
Time has stood still in Castle Combe
For 500 years, the village one sees today has been the same- 15th century- full of golden Cotswold Stone and complete with Manor, Market, Constable, Court, Church, Inns and Tradesman. It more than qualifies for it’s ‘prettiest village in England’ award.
Norman Castle
Originally built in the 14th century to replace a Norman Castle that had fallen into a state beyond repair, The Manor House had many Lords of the Manor. The most influential of which, is believed to be Sir John Falstaff who was immortalized by Shakespeare in Henry IV.

The Barony of Combe continued for some 850 years until 1947 when The Manor House was sold and has sympathetically evolved to become a beautiful hotel.
