Avila is World heritage. Two things distinguish Avila: its eleventh-century walls, two perfectly preserved kilometers of which surround the old town, and the mystic writer Santa Teresa, who was born here and whose shrines are a major focus of religious pilgrimage. Set on a high plain, with the peaks of the Sierra de Gredos behind, the town is quite a sight, especially if you time it right and approach with the evening sun highlighting the golden tone of the walls and the details of the 88 towers.

Convento de Santa Teresa
The convent, inaugurated in 1636, was built on top of the birthplace of Santa Teresa, and designed by the architect Fray Alonso de San José. The Baroque facade of the church is interesting, and inside, with a Latin cross floor plan whose adjoining naves house magnificent sculptures by the master Gregorio Fernández.

Palacio de los Velada
Hotel Palacio de los Velada is a splendid 4 star hotel which stands proudly beside the 11th century cathedral in the very heart of Avila . This 16th century civic building has been beautifully restored and offers a very comfortable stay. Within easy walking distance, you can visit the St Peter's Church, St Vincent's Basilica or take one of several walking tours of the city. The hotel has its own restaurant, "El Tostado", specializing in regional cuisine, a cloisters bar and a cafeteria.

Reservation For Avila, Spain Cancellations:
• Written cancellation immediately after registration: $1000 US cancellation fee per person .
• Cancellation within 60 days prior to departure: 50% of trip price per person. Cancellation within 30 days prior to departure: no refund. No refund for unused portions of the tour, including but not limited to, missed meals, hotel nights and sightseeing.
