Dear All:

What fun - I've been reading all of your wonderful responses to my recent newsletter - like be surrounded by magnificent minds and spirits. I need to address one point that several people expressed confusion on, which is I am NOT promoting the Islamic religion - or any religion. In referring to the Islamic culture, I was focusing in on one aspect of their culture, namely their family traditions so far as honor is concerned, WHILE acknowledging that their treatment of women is appalling. But I was not addressing the treatment of women - I was commenting on an article written by an author OTHER THAN ME - namely Robert Kaplan and his brilliant piece, "The Coming Anarchy". And in addressing their relationship to "honor", I was addressing a principle regarding the passing on of traditions of honor from one generation to the next, REGARDLESS of the culture. I was speaking of honor as a generic substance to the human spirit - not of becoming an "honorable Muslim."

Whew! - I hope that put things in a bit more perspective.... wait till you read my next column. And speaking of which - are there any topics of interest to all of you????

My name is Dr. Mario E. Martinez and I am a clinical neuropsychologist with a specialty in psychoneuroimmunology (how emotions and thoughts affect the nervous, endocrine and immune systems). I am honored to announce that Caroline has invited me to join her Expert's Forum to answer your questions related to mind body psychology and health.

In addition to my background in psychoneuroimmnulogy, I have developed a theory I call Biocognition that views the individual as an inseparable unit of mind, body and historical culture.

I encourage you to visit Caroline's Expert's Forum and feel free to ask questions that interest you as well as about how our culture affects our health and how our decisions are based on bioethical codes that influence our biology. In fact, our immune, nervous and endocrine systems are constantly responding to our actions according to the ethics that we assimilate from our historical culture and personal experiences.
