THREE POPULAR WAYS OF AVOIDING POWERFUL GUIDANCE

I've just come off of a book tour for the paperback edition of Sacred Contracts, and as usual, my intensive cross-country engagements have given me an enormous amount to think about. The advantage of speaking in front of gatherings at bookstores is that that audiences are small enough that I can chat with people rather than doing a seminar presentation. This is a gift for me, and more of a pleasure than I can describe. It can be frustrating during workshop presentations not to be able to engage in conversation with you, because I have as many questions that I want to ask you as you might have for me.

As I listen to the feedback, comments, and questions from these small groups, it always strikes me that, except for the specific differences within our individual lives, the types of questions and comments tend to be similar. There are the questions that come under the heading of "Asked All the Time" as well as the replies that could be listed as "The Most Frustrating." At the root of these discussions is the subject of this month's Salon: "Three Popular Ways of Avoiding Powerful Guidance." Although this topic might appear humorous, it is so only on the surface. Behind the occasional laughter exists an inner crisis that people experience as "blank space." I know when people have entered their "blank space," because their eyes glaze over and their alert attention span is replaced by nodding off. (And let me add a bit of a sidebar here . . . in all humility, how can anyone nod off in one of MY lectures?????)

Method Number 1: Act Confused and Stay Confused: It's Still an Act

Consider for a moment how many paradoxes are at work within you. How many contradictions animate your psyche and soul on a nonstop basis? If you answer this rapidly, I say humph to that. These are questions that require slow thought. And of course I have to add, "How aware are you of the clever ways you have developed to avoid connecting to your guidance?"

As a starter, here's a familiar paradox that serves the purpose of maintaining sufficient confusion so that you do not have to make any immediate changes in your life -- while wanting your life to change completely. The method is to stay confused regardless of how clearly you recognize your intuitive voice. "I completely trust in the Divine . . . however, not really. . . . Well, I have a mortgage to think about and kids . . . and even if it's just me . . . I can't just go wandering off on some spiritual walk-about. But no . . . I really do have complete trust in the Divine . . . and I absolutely KNOW that I was born for some higher purpose. . . . What am I waiting for? Oh, a sign . . . well, not A sign . . . just a, uh, well a job with, you know, medical insurance and a pension plan . . . but not just any job. No, no, it has to be one with a spiritual purpose and path of service. . . . But let's face it, we have to think of tomorrow and retirement accounts. What? No, I live in the present moment. 'Now, Now, Now' - that's my motto, but we can never be too cautious."

Method Number 2: Consciously Break the Rules

Another common method of avoiding powerful guidance is to break the rules of cosmic order, because you think that you can handle familiar consequences better than unfamiliar change. When you make a choice that violates a higher truth that you maintain as part of your spiritual rules, you have to compensate for that choice by fabricating a rationale. You start to fixate on the "righteous reasons" you have that excuse you from honoring your spiritual rules. Negative righteousness is a very effective way of avoiding powerful guidance, because negative feelings give you the "right" to postpone change. For example, holding on to past grievances can often serve as an emotional anchor that gives a person a reason to remain fragile and too vulnerable to get on with life. Few will risk telling a wounded person that she has had enough of her wounds and that it's time to make some serious changes in her life. That kind of comment is considered harsh and unfeeling, but is it really? In the early days of a trauma, compassion is indeed required. But as time goes on, how can it possibly be useful to the wounded individual for people to support her remaining wounded - especially if her emotional injuries render her, consciously or unconsciously, unable to get on with her life?

Number 3: Rely on Popular Excuses

Finally, we avoid powerful guidance by relying on popular social, emotional, and financial excuses that allow us, even if only for a moment, to tell our intuitive system that we will attend to the guidance we are receiving as soon as it includes a safety net.

Children, lack of financial resources, fear of failure, fear of being alone, and fear of everything are the most common roadblocks to incoming guidance. The people who say things like, "I know I am supposed to do something special" are usually leaning on one or more of the above reasons to avoid powerful guidance. And these are effective, at least for a while. But then children grow up, the fear of failure never ends, the years pass rapidly, and soon there is no time or space left to do that "something special." And then what? You become one of those people who write sentimental Hallmark-like poems about how you would live your life differently if you only had another chance. You would become bold and daring and you would wear purple hats and pause to smell the roses and appreciate the sunsets. Yuck.

Here are my final thoughts on this matter, other than encouraging you to spend the next few weeks reviewing your own blockades. Every prayer is answered immediately. You don't have to fast, light candles, hang wind chimes from your back porch, and turn vegetarian in order to get directions on what to do with your mind, body, spirit, and life. You simply need to respond to the signals: body stress, emotional input, mental highs and lows, your intuition. Courage is something that will never enter you through prayer. Only action brings courage. If you can't immediately respond to major stress signals, or strong creative direction, then respond by doing something "small." Just respond. At the very least, do yourself the favor of admitting when you are avoiding powerful guidance. It reduces spiritual stress considerably.

And that's it for this topic.

I'm sure I don't need to say this to any of you, but I am going to say it anyway: Let us all pray for peace. God bless all of you.

With love,
Caroline

Trust Your Vibes
It’s time for Intuitive Living
By
Sonia Choquette
As a practicing intuitive and spiritual teacher for over 32 years, I’ve spent most of my life helping people on a psychic level to realize that we’re all spiritual beings endowed with six, not five senses, and, even more important, that we need that sixth sense, our psychic sense, to fulfill our life’s purpose and be peaceful and happy.

My mission began as a child in Denver, Colorado, when I started doing one-on-one psychic readings at the age of 12 for people at my kitchen table. Formal training in the psychic arts followed by apprenticing for many years with two spiritual and psychic master teachers, Charlie Goodman and Dr. Trenton Tully. In addition to this private, specialized teaching, I spent 25 years studying in the areas of religion, language, and mysticism, including Western Kabala, Western mysticism, Tarot, and World religion, to help me better understand our soul’s evolution.

But the best education I’ve had has come from the psychic readings themselves for my clients, which I have done on a near-daily basis this entire time. Working in the trenches with each person has given me more insight than any formal classroom could have offered. The opportunity to study and witness their evolution has been an extraordinary and ongoing education in just how essential our psychic sense is to successful living.

Through all my training and experience I have come to fully understand what I refer to as people’s “throwaway” sense and how to call it back into our lives. Our psychic sense is not a physical sense like the other five, but is rather a spiritual sense connected to our soul body and centered in the heart. Just as our physical senses keep our body informed and directed, our psychic sense’s primary function is to guide our soul’s growth and keep us connected to our Creator, our spirit guides, and our angelic assistants, who guide us in our path and purpose.

Our physical senses give us our feet and keep us earthbound. Our psychic sense, our vibes, or inner gut feelings, gives us our wings and teaches us to soar. Sadly, few people realize we have such an important spiritual sense, let alone know how to access or listen to it.

As time moves on, and as the world becomes more complicated and confusing, my mission as a psychic and teacher has become more urgent. I believe recognizing we have a psychic sense and giving it a proper place in our lives are no longer optional if we ever hope to live meaningful, secure, and balanced lives. We must stop questioning, or resisting our higher wisdom and accept the now scientifically supported reality that we are, indeed, far more conscious and capable on a soul level than we have been taught to believe, or have dared to express. We must learn to trust our vibes, the energetic vibrations rising out of our inborn psychic sense that pulse subtly through our awareness and guide us through our soul’s journey in this life.

The price people pay for ignoring their vibes is high. They live in fear. They feel inadequate and powerless. They make decisions that aren’t good for them and lead them to places other than where they want to be. They become anxious and addictive. They act aggressively, even violently at times, toward those they love in their fear, thus alienating themselves even more. They become stressed, even physically ill, and enjoy no real peace of mind. Wandering around lost in the darkness of second-guessing and worry, fearing life and fearing death, they fight against life or get trampled beneath it and fail to achieve their purpose or spiritual goals, thus wasting, instead of loving, their lives.

I know this because after all these years of reading for people, I’ve observed it firsthand. All confusion and stress is unnecessary. It’s not our design, not practical, and not in the Divine order to feel so lost or vulnerable.

As a practicing intuitive and psychic, I can assure you that listening to your vibes, your psychic compass cures this. It establishes a direct link to your Creator and your spirit guides and helpers. It guides you safely to your path, connects you to right relationships, assists you in learning your spiritual secrets, guides you in your profession, keeps you safe and out of harm’s way, and helps you realize you are loved and accepted just as you are. Your psychic sense supports your creativity, helps heals your emotional wounds, and calms your anxious and uncertain heart. Through direction from your angels, guides, and Higher Self it brings you peace of mind and shows you how to live a higher, more harmonious, way.

Listening to and trusting your psychic sense is your greatest gift. It cuts away the confusion and illusions that can leave a person feeling isolated and alone, “me against you,” and makes me aware of how we are all in this experience called life together.

Psychic and intuitive people have several things in common. We listen to our helpers, spirit guides, and angels, those light beings devoted to our growth and healing and show us our proper place in the Universal scheme of things. We pay attention to and respect what we feel at all times even if it doesn’t make sense at the moment. We think, feel, and act on our vibes without question or hesitation unlike those who aren’t psychic—or, as I prefer to think, aren’t yet psychic. As psychics we are as attuned to the unseen world as we are to the physical one, maybe more so.

It’s almost as though psychic and non-psychic people are two different species. Psychic people trust their vibes and let them lead day by day. Generally speaking, psychic people are more creative, resourceful, and successful than non-psychic people in every way. What I have observed most of all as a professional psychic is that psychic people enjoy life more fully than those who are not.

Above all, psychic and intuitive people realize that love is the magic potion that gives us our wings. Being psychic brings with it an innate sense of security, confidence, and courage that those stuck in a five-sensory paradigm fail to have. We know that our spirit lives on after death, so we do not fight against the tides of life, fearing death, and getting caught in the undertow of mortal anxiety. Rather, we surf the waves of life gracefully and with faith because we know we have help behind the scenes and we are eternal.

Another fundamental difference between the psychic intuitive, a person who trusts their vibes, and the non-psychic, who does not, is the rules they follow for life. Five-sensory people only see the physical plane and follow intellectual or ego-based laws, while six-sensory people feel the spiritual plane and follow spiritual law, thus creating two contrasting realities, the ordinary way and the higher way. A psychic being’s vibration is faster, lighter, more attractive, more fluid and healing, and can be immediately felt. Others are drawn to this higher, lighter vibration because it feels so good.

This is not to say that six-sensory people are superior to those who are not because any good six sensory will tell you we are all exactly the same. We are all Divine Spiritual Beings who come from the same source, have the same value, and are made of the same essence--love. I only suggest that psychic people tend to have a superior life experience because they are better informed and can make better choices, ones that lead to a greater ability to love and appreciate this wonderful experience called life.

Psychic or six sensory people pay attention to life differently—in attitude, perspective, and approach. We look for different clues, are more sensitive and more perceptive than those who have shut down, or are unaware of their higher wisdom and guidance.

Most of all, psychic and intuitive people take the bold step of going with their feelings instead of wasting time struggling against them, and we never concern ourselves with whether they make sense to others. We know that psychic awareness operates out of linear time and space and, therefore, will sometimes give us information that won’t make immediate sense, but will eventually.

Not that we know everything that will happen to us or to others in advance, because we don’t. What we do know is that we will be guided and shown the best possible direction for our growth, protection, and well being, so we don’t worry about the future. Psychic people base their habits, behaviors, and decisions on what they feel inside, rather than what they are told outside, and consequently feel at peace within themselves and in the Universe most of the time.

The good news is that we are all naturally designed to be psychic to some degree depending on the overall evolution and intention of our soul. Some, like me, are here to serve as guides and teachers to others as our soul mission. Others are psychic on a more personal level. All of us are capable of being psychic when it comes to our mission, purpose, and protection. Without being connected to our inner guidance system we become lost and disoriented. This isn’t the natural way to live, nor is it necessary to live like this. Once you learn to activate your psychic sense you can begin to eliminate all this confusion and start to be guided just as I am.

My mission as a professional psychic has always been to serve as a teacher and bridge to others to lead them back to their inner psychic navigational system. As a teacher, I love nothing more than to guide people to open their psychic lives. As a member of the human race, I feel it’s urgent that people wake up their psychic sense because without it we are making no sense at all. We are hurting one another, killing in the name of God, drugging ourselves in epidemic proportions, and living in isolated states while the world is overcrowding at record levels.

Psychic awareness heals this because at its root it helps us see how we are all interconnected and interdependent, and therefore, “whatsoever we do to the least of our brothers that indeed we do to ourselves.” Listening to your vibes serves as a great deterrent to the downward spiral of personal and global self-destruction we find ourselves tangled in today. When we trust our vibes we restore our balance and experience within. This ultimately leads to peace without.

When you “trust your vibes,” as psychics say, you change the rules that run your life and begin to take the risk of following your spirit. Even though we all have the potential to be six-sensory and can be guided by our Higher Self, wanting to be is not enough. Just like watching an exercise video won’t give you abs of steel, neither will just knowing about your intuition or wanting to be intuitive make you intuitive. Unless you train your psychic muscles and use them daily, they won’t develop into the strong inner guidance system intended.

If you approach your vibes lightly and with fun, instead of making it a test, you’ll be communicating with the Universe like a psychic pro in no time. Soon you’ll stop looking outside yourself for answers. You’ll know in your heart what’s right for you because you’ll hear your higher self-loud and clear.

As spiritual beings we all have psychic wings and want to fly with our spirit. We want to rise above life’s struggle and live a higher way because we intuitively know in our cells, in our bones, that we can. The way to fly with spirit is simple--stop fighting your intuition and start listening to it. It will lift you up.
