Passive Light and Active Shadow: The Spiritual Challenge

Hi Everyone -

I'm done with the book tour - whew. One of the nicest features of book tours for me is that I and always after such a rich opportunity to meet people all over the country and have mini-conversations in bookstores, radio stations, workshops and lecture halls, I always return home with a backpack full of perceptions that need to be filtered through, filed, or tossed out. Because of the election, this was a particularly high voltage time to engage in a book tour. People arrived at my bookstore lectures nearly imploding with a need to ask questions about current political events and the election in spite of the fact that the book I was introducing - INVISIBLE ACTS OF POWER - is anything but a book on politics. That is a book that examines our inherent spiritual need to be of service to one another and how that need is connected to the development of our intuitive skills. But that didn't seem to matter for regardless of how I tried to keep the subject of the discussion on the topic of my book, people managed to present their questions on the events unfolding in our global village. Of particular interest was the status of the book I've been working on for the past three years, THE SACRED CONTRACT OF AMERICA, which examines the mystical roots of our nation and its founding spiritual vision. What would the Founding Fathers and Mothers say about America today? Would they even recognize their beloved nation? And the most intriguing question of all perhaps - have they returned? Have the "founding mystics and illuminati" descended once again to aid this nation in its time of greatest need?

I have my own opinion about that - I think it's entirely possible. I no longer say "impossible" to anything. I could not help but consider how curious it was that a wave of biographies of our Founding Fathers and Mothers had been published prior to 911 - operative word being "prior" and many, many more after 911. Biographies of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Abigail Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, Paul Revere, and then collective pieces on the Founding Fathers as well as numerous others have not only sold well; some have become New York Times Best sellers. One man, a physician, in fact, named Walter Semkiw, M.D., released his book in 2003 entitled, RETURN OF THE REVOLUTIONARIES: The Case for Reincarnation and Soul Groups Reunited, in which he says that indeed, the Founding Fathers and Mothers have returned. He goes so far as to name who then is who now. He says that he was John Adams, for example. Who knows? Nothing is easier than to dismiss the idea as nonsense, but what if it isn't? I mean, these magnificent souls managed to incarnate as a group once before - why not again? If it is possible - and maybe even true - (and I'm not saying it is or it isn't, by the way. I am wide open on these matters, especially after 20 years in this field. Along the way in my life, I've encountered every type of screwball and fanatic along with extraordinary phenomenon that remains quite unexplainable to me. Who am I to say what can and cannot happen in this world? Just because something doesn't make sense to me doesn't mean it's impossible. It means that it's impossible FOR ME to grasp, but hardly for a Universe whose workings I shall never comprehend. After all the years, I just take the path of least resistance: I stay open. ) I will add that after nearly four years of saturating myself in American history, and in particular its mystical roots, I am in awe of our Founders and of what took place "behind the veil" from and through the spiritual corridor - just in awe. From the "channeled" autobiography of George Washington that I have in my possession, which remains in manuscript form and has a history of its own that would keep you on the edge of your seat if I were to tell the tale - to the legends of the Count de St. Germaine, who is allegedly the spiritual Master whose task is the govern the evolution of this nation from a cosmic position - America has a mystical pedigree that is breathtaking, to say the least. My point is in commenting on all of this is to highlight how curious is it that a wave of history about our founding years should proceed our nation's greatest catastrophe; certainly the catastrophe that has most caused a re-awakening of nationalism.

But what if the Founding Fathers and Mothers have returned? Why would they do that? Did they know perhaps that we were heading into a cycle, an era, of crisis? Do they fear that America is coming dangerously close to losing its connection with its founding vision? War is darkness, regardless of who "started" it, and we are in a war. When people ask me about this country, they are looking for a symbolic perspective on what's going on. How do we make sense of this time and these global events from a perspective transcendent of ground level politics? Consider that when you find yourself in a place of darkness, the only healthy way to move through it is to get as symbolic or spiritual or archetypal perspective you can - get your coordinates from that cosmic plane - and then re-enter your physical world and proceed protected by the grace of a higher vision. Strengthen your light when confronting a shadow or a fear. Part of what it means to "strengthen your light" includes animating the highest perspectives on truth that you can reach and drawing your power - your focus - your breath - from a truth much more eternal than the temporary events of your life.

What alarmed me the most when these discussions of current events began was how many people admitted that for the first time, they were frightened as Americans of America itself. Some commented that speaking out, expressing their opinions, felt risky, or rather, feels risky to them. They no longer trust that the First Amendment will protect them. Just the mention of that fear usually drew fire from other people in the audience who insisted that nothing could ever tamper with the First Amendment. I'm just the reporter here - not taking sides - just reporting what I experienced at several times while on book tour, but let me add that in all my years of teaching, atmospheres can and have gotten hot and electric as a result of a topic. Debates kick in and people get emotional. But this autumn, during this political season, was the first time I experienced actually hostility, rage, anger, and borderline violence as a result of a discussion in a bookstore where, at the very least, different opinions should be allowed expression with risk of hostility. One person was holding on to a book on "consciousness" while saying to this one man, "You're out of your mind, buddy. Why don't you go home and hang out with your own kind?" (I do believe "own kind" referred to liberals).

So, what's my point in carrying on like this on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Chicago.....well, it's the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the Pilgrim's day of gratitude. ....which reminded me of the Founding Fathers and Mothers, of how deeply I love this nation. I am also a teacher, a writer, a medical intuitive, and someone whose life has become a practice of symbolic interpretation of events. From my perspective, which is a mixture of all those roles in my life, we are living through a collision of orbits - the old and the new, the Piscean and the Aquarian, the rule-by-division power paradigm and the rule-by-inclusion power paradigm on the horizon. (Mind you, I will never be one of those people who see a perfect future somewhere on the horizon....I see change - period). But these two orbits play by different rules and it's time for one paradigm to get dismantled while the other descends into form. Aside from how poetic that might read, what's the significance of a paradigm shift and especially for you? How much influence does this paradigm shift have on global politics? And what about local politics - namely, the politics of personal life?

It's impossible not to be influenced in some way by the chaos unfolding on this earth, chaos that will increase long before it subsides. How is this collision of orbits reflected in your personal spiritual life? You can tell when a collision of orbits is occurring on mini-levels if you become attuned to the subtle signals in the greater atmosphere, especially if you are someone who has made a habit of interior work. Most people are unaccustomed to calculating "atmospheric vibrations" into their overall psychic, emotional, and physical well-being, and yet, as we move more deeply into the age of energy, both personal and global vibrational data must be considered as real forms of influence, if not energetic pollution. And among the many forms of energetic data that is worthy of naming is the stress in the collective global community. Americans have long carried a substantial amount of the psychic energy for the collective, both positively and negatively. That energy finds its way through each American in some way; we are the individual vessels through which collective thought forms are channeled. And while we are not able to see this energy and even less able to measure it in any way, rest assured it's real and it has clout in your energy field.

Any way, I thought I would share these thoughts with you today because Thanksgiving (though it's now past) is an American holiday, and because I have to admit I have been wondering if the founding Illuminati are back....somewhere in this great land....and I'm wondering about the future of this land. Who knows what is going on behind the scenes of our lives. The only thing I am sure of is that no one is alive now by accident. These are the times we have been assigned to live, and live them well we must. That is the choice that is in our hands and certainly one of the reasons that I love teaching so much. This is an extraordinary time to be in a classroom doing seminars on consciousness, especially Sacred Contracts and the one I am about to introduce on Intuition, Mysticism, and Healing.

When, better than now, would a person want to know more about the agreements they made prior to this lifetime? This is hardly a lifetime to let go by without giving it its full due. When I watch people study each archetypal pattern with the question, "Am I the Judge?" or "Am I the Warrior?" or "Am I the Queen?" or "Am I the Artist?", knowing full well that how they answer that question will re-direct the entire future of their lives, I fill with awe and respect for their courage. I know they are stirring the waters of their unconscious and that they are inviting guidance to come into their psyches with more direct contact than they have ever before considered. Sometimes I think it is a blessing that such a tool gives the appearance of being a game, just as a homeopathic remedy can give the appearance of being impotent or harmless. But that's how the heaven's works - in disguise, frequently looking safe, small, humble....like a babe in a manger. And then, once a bond of contact has been establish, a flow of power begins between the individual and the nonphysical plane of consciousness...and gradually/rapidly, a person's life begins to shift off the path of his or her fate and on to the path of their destiny. Who could not love teaching that and being a part of a person's transformation? I do believe that the heavens are indeed drafting people into the Aquarian orbit and it's a difficult place to go unescorted, to say the least.

But all of us are headed in that direction. We are all headed into a great unknown, and that is a truth that could have been written at any time in human history - only now it's our time to write it. One thing I can say about our Founding Fathers and Mothers - our great founding Illuminati - regardless of whether or not they have reincarnated at this time, they accomplished what they did for this nation because they embodied the fullness of their Sacred Contracts. I can't imagine one of them saying, "But what if I fail?" or "What if I end of alone?" or "What if I lose money?" Can you imagine the birth of democracy and this nation - a spiritual experiment for all of humanity - being aborted in mid-stream because Franklin, Jefferson, Hamilton, Washington, Hancock, Adams, Payne, Madison, Revere, and so many others, decided to forego the task because they feared it might be a bad investment on their British sterling? I'm not making light of the very real fears we face when we confront our challenges in life; I am pointing to the victories of those that did in order to say that all of our challenges are in some way alike and foregoing your fate for the sake of your destiny is in every way worth the struggle. Your fate belongs to your ego's life; your destiny belongs to your soul's....give that a think.

It occurs to me that a discussion forum on the symbolic meaning and interpretation of global events is more than timely; it is essential at this critical crossroads of human history. I believe it is vitally important to seek the greater significance in all that happens in our lives, whether at the individual level or in the collective. But our world now is on fire with change. We are a nation at war and for the first time in our history, we are a nation that has lost much of its good will. Is that in harmony with America's destiny or has America taken a path of fate? Americans must discuss questions like that because we, the entire global community, are living in the most volatile climate that humanity has ever created. We cannot afford not to discuss our place in the scheme of things.

What I have in mind is an open line of discussion about the spiritual meaning of events as well as how they influence one's earthly life and perspectives. What concerns do you have now that have never been with you before? Does all the news on the war on terror influence you? How do you envision your future now and is it much different than pre-911? How much do you think America has changed and has it been for the good, not-so-good, or simply necessary? What is your idea of the greater spiritual meaning behind all the chaos of our global events? We could even swing into the great beyond and chat about the return of our Founding Illuminati and speculate about what they would be doing if they were here. Or add your own questions.

Let me say up front that I would not like this discussion, this forum on the symbolic meaning of global events, to become reduced to bantering between ground level politics, Red states versus Blue states, conservatives versus liberals. My intention is to generate insight and rich conversation. That's going to be difficult because it is so tempting to refer to certain people along the way - and if someone does, then we need to adapt a code in keeping with the founding American spirit: we may not respect what someone has to say, but we will defend to the death their right to say. Discussions are not about who is right or wrong; those types of discussions are not discussions - they are arguments and arguments are always a waste of time.

So let me just begin by tossing out just the idea of a discussion forum on the symbolic meaning of global events - does the idea appeal to you? I'm just taking a poll......if enough people are interested, we'll initiate a forum.
