SEPTEMBER SALON: ESTABLISHING A CMED HEALING COMMUNITY
This newsletter is devoted to establishing a CMED Healing Community, a prayer network devoted to assisting people connected to the CMED family, which has grown quite large and international during these past four years. My inspiration to create this healing network has emerged out of my own growing interest in the power of prayer and channeling grace and in the practical end of healing itself. I hesitated for some time because creating any type of network takes time, effort, and devotion. Thank God I have Amy, my sister and assistant, at my side in this, along with David.
The Catholic in me (a very archetypal Catholic, mind you – one saturated in the mysticism of the tradition and divorced from the politics of it) adores the constant flood of miracles and healings that are a part of the 2,000-year-long history of the Catholic Church. Miracles and healings just seem to go along with the abundance of saints, angels, and holy water that fill that tradition – not to mention the glorious Madonna. I have never had trouble believing in miracles and healing; I have never had trouble believing in prayer and grace. The time is right – it’s as simple as that. I invite you to become a part of this healing circle. Intentions are included at the end of this newsletter, as they will be at the end of all newsletters, along with the appropriate prayers and instructions that I am asking we all follow.
THE MYSTERY OF HEALING AT A DISTANCE
Healing is mysterious business. So is prayer. We are creatures of the physical world and the fact is we like facts and forms much better than we like dealing with air and thought. We like knowing someone is on the receiving end of our communications – we like to know we’ve been “heard”. With prayer, all we have is the gray zone of hope, faith, and trust. And prayer applied to healing is all the more frustrating because we are so focused on results, preferably immediate ones – preferably the immediate ones we want. But…that just isn’t the way the script is written. Healing, if we are ever to understand the subtle workings of this divine art, begins with us relinquishing any and all needs for proof and specific outcomes. And secondly, we must constantly battle the rational mind within us that looks for “the” right pattern or ritual that seems to produce “the” maximum outcome for the patient. Healing, after all, is not rational – at least not healing through prayer. It is miraculous and miraculous by definition is completely counter-rational. But let’s begin our exploration of healing at a distance with a discussion of the art of healing itself.
HEALING AS A DIVINE ART
It can be said that every kind act is simultaneously an act of healing and I wouldn’t argue with that. At the same time, I would not place acts of kindness or acts of service into the same category of healing as the art of divine healing because it lacks the consciousness and grace-filled intention that characterizes this sacred art.
The divine art of healing is characterized by: 1) an invocation of the sacred; 2) a willingness to be used as a channel for grace; 3) the use of healing substances such as holy oils and holy water; 4) the use of specific prayers and rituals; 5) the formation of sacred healing circles; 6) the shared commitments by a group of people to maintain an agreed upon healing practice on behalf of others (as well as themselves) for a given length of time (by “time”, I am referring to the length of time maintained in prayer as well as the number of days/weeks/months that people are willing to commit to a group healing effort); 7) additional prayer work maintained by the individual as a part of his or her personal spiritual life.

THE PRACTICE OF HEALING AT A DISTANCE: ESTABLISHING A CMED HEALING COMMUNITY
How, then, does a healing circle or network work?
First, let’s get a visual of what a healing circle is. Imagine hundreds and hundreds, if not thousands of people, all connected to each other through a circuit that is constantly channeling grace. Imagine that once you are linked to that, it is a constant resource of divine Light. (more on that in the October Salon). Your task is to maintain a supply of grace into this circuit on a daily basis and this is done through prayer. There are prayers that we share and you are free to add prayers of your own. A daily healing practice is best maintained at the same time every day because it then becomes a ritual, a part of your every day routine. It doesn’t matter what time; just make that time non-negotiable when it comes to the rest of your schedule.

THE HEALING PRACTICE:
There are many forms of prayer of course. Prayers that transmit inspiration and hope to the collective field of grace are very powerful, so the first prayer is a reading from the Soul Songs of the Mandaean Literature, which is a part of the Gnostic Gospels. That is followed by prayer written by Jim Cotter, an Anglican priest. Following that is the guided meditation for channeling grace. I selected these prayers because they convey hope and inspiration and that energy of the spirit is conveyed to others. Our collective healing practice consists of saying these prayers once each day. With each Salon, the prayer selection will change.
MY SOUL YEARNED FOR LIFE
The soul in me yearned for life.
Knowledge blossomed in my eyes.
The soul in me yearned for life.
I floated and wandered up
Till I reached the first planet.
Her slaves came to meet me.
“Seize him, seize that man.
He will keep us company.
Seize him, seize that man,
And ask where he is from.”
“Friend, where are you from and
where are you going?”
“I come from earth, the Tibil,
the house the planets built.
The soul in me yearned for life
And aimed for the place of life.”
“This is the house of life.
This is the way!
Where are you going?
When you go among enemies
They will perform anything
Imaginable against you.
“That is not what I desire
and not what my soul wants.”
The soul in me yearned for life.
Knowledge blossomed in my eyes.
The soul in me yearned for life.
I floated and wandered up
Till I reached the second planet,
And the third and the fourth.
When you go among them,
They will shout the name of death,
And chain and torment you.
I floated and wandered up
The fifth, sixth, and seventh planets
Till I reach the house of life.
When I reached the house of life,
Life came out to meet me.
Life came out to meet me
And dressed me in radiance
And covered me with light.
He counted me, gave me
His number. The good
Came out of his midst.
Among the lamps of light
Your lamps will float and shine.
A Prayer for a Monday
I love you, O God my strength,
My crag, my fortress, and my deliverer,
The rock to which I cling for refuge,
My shield, my saviour and my stronghold.
I called to you with loud lamentation –
And you sprang the trap which held me fast.
The waves of death swept over my head,
The floods of chaos surged around me.
The cord of the grave tightened about my neck,
The snares of death sprang shut in my path.
In my anguish I called to you, O God:
I cried in desperation for your help.
Like an eagle you swooped down and took me,
Lifting me from the jaws of the sea.
You delivered me from all that imprisoned me,
From those I thought stronger than I.
They fell upon me in the day of calamity,
Yet you rescued me and led me to safety.
You brought me into a broad place,
You gave me freedom because you delight in me.
The Healing Meditation:
Repeat this phrase like a mantra, to keep you focused. “On behalf of all these people requesting help, I allow myself to be used as a channel for healing grace”. I would ask that you hold this prayer for at least three minutes. Then bring yourself into a focused consciousness, keeping yourself actively connected to a greater field of grace.
Much, much love,
Caroline
