CMED

Hi Everyone,

I'm so pleased to say that the Healing Work organized through CMED's monthly Salon has generated enormous interest. Because of that, I am sending out this newsletter that will give all of you an opportunity to take a closer look at the dedicated healing work we are doing for and with each other - and for our nation and global community, beginning this year and hopefully continuing long afterwards. The theme of February's Salon is, "The Call to be a Healer and the Call to be Healed", which explores the intriguing positions that a person is equally called to the task of being a healer as well as to the challenge of being healed.

Also, each Salon will include a segment on healers from other spiritual traditions as all traditions have exquisite histories of healers and miracles. The work and wisdom of the many gifted sages from all the sacred traditions only add to your own understanding and appreciation of what it means to be a channel for grace in this world. I hope this newsletter will inspire you to the Healing Work Salons.

Thank you so much,
Caroline

THE HEALING JOURNAL

The purpose of our joining together in a healing network is to channel grace to each other through prayer in order to facilitate each other’s healing and general well-being in life. The second reason is to create a field of grace that will contribute to the healing of our nation and all the other nations on this earth. Never before has humanity experienced such a vulnerable or volatile time of transformation. Every person on the spiritual path is truly called to become a positive resource of mystical action through prayer and personal actions of service to humanity that serve the good of the whole. And there is no such thing as a small act of grace or goodness. The more that we unite our efforts, the stronger will grow this field of grace. It is impossible to measure the impact that comes from the power of prayer. It is my humble opinion that the combination of the prayers of the millions of people on this earth, combined with the countless acts of goodness and kind thoughts and deeds have already done more to prevent ever more horror from happening than we will ever know. Ultimately working with the power of prayer remains an act of faith as you may never witness the results of your devotion. You must be content to live in the truth that each time you pray for another – or for yourself – you are channeling a profound quality of grace that immediately flows into the life of the person(s) you mention, or into the global soul of humanity. How that grace converts into practical use in terms of healing is out of our hands – such is the nature of being an impersonal, invisible servant of the Divine. But if you have ever wondered what your highest potential felt like, this silent, invisible devotion to prayer for the healing of others and the whole will lead you directly to the heart of that potential.

Let us begin with this one truth and always keep it in the center of your heart: healing is a mystical experience that is governed by God. All the many practices that we can introduce into our healing span the spectrum from commonly recognized practices such as therapy, weight loss, exercise, and breaking addiction patterns, to the more extreme, such as massages with highly refined sacred oils; intense colon cleansings; visiting healers in remote regions of Brazil; following intensely regulated nutritional programs; wearing only pure cotton fabrics, magnetic bracelets and crystals as a way of balancing the energy field. And yet, the fact is that none of these techniques can guarantee that you will heal. Genuine healing is a mystical experience because the path to an individual’s healing is unique for each person. Returning to the fullness of life is not a gift one human being can offer another. Many can facilitate that profound grace of life, to be sure. But ultimately, the breath of life comes from God. And the nature of God is such that one person may heal instantly after uttering a single prayer in a church one afternoon—as one man did in Terre Haute, Indiana, praying for the return of his eyesight and awakening the next morning able to see—while others pray for weeks, months or even years before they witness any evidence of healing in physical form.

These mysteries cannot be explained. They can only be observed and noted for what they are – individual experiences of Divine intervention appropriate to the healing journey of each person. Further, that a healing does not instantly manifest in physical form, returning the person to full health, by no means indicates that the grace of healing is not actively engaged within the greater field of an individual’s life. Healing grace finds its way to what most needs to be healed. Though everyone would want their pain and difficulties to vanish immediately, that might not serve how they need to evolve as individuals. If chronic pain were the only method through which a person could learn how to appreciate the suffering of others, then that pain is a wise teacher that is meant to remain in that person’s life until his or her heart has opened wide enough to respect the life paths of others as opposed to dismissing them as insignificant. From yet another perspective, an illness or disability brought about through an accident – or war – often requires rediscovering the body one is living in through rehabilitation. This can be a long and arduous healing journey and, more often than not the soul requires more healing than the shattered physical body, because the soul must find the stamina to reconnect to a disfigured form that was once perfect.

Yet another expanded view of healing is understood in examining addiction and its many manifestations, from illegal drugs to prescription medications that permeate the realm of the psyche. Depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, weight problems, chronic pain, emotional stress, and the rest of the list that is so casually medicated in this culture has created a complex healing crisis of its own. What really needs healing when it comes to depression, for instance? Is it the depression itself; the reliance on medication or the addiction to food, sugar, or alcohol that often accompanies a depression; the dysfunctional life environment and personal history that generated the depression; the absence of self-esteem that contributes to the depression; or all the above?

Such challenges, which merely touch the surface of the complex field of human nature and healing, therefore, require us to ask these most crucial questions:

  • When, in fact, does your healing begin? Healing begins the instant you turn your attention to the desire to heal. Because the journey of healing encompasses the whole of your life, the deeper question you must reflect upon is, “How much of my health and my life is out of harmony?” You cannot isolate your illness as the target of a healing process while maintaining negative habits and patterns in other areas of your life. Healing is an all or nothing proposition. Thus, when you become open to the intervention of healing grace through prayer – a grace that is received directly as well as through the field of grace co-created by all involved in this healing group – the healing process immediately envelops the whole of your life.
  • How much can you realistically influence your healing? You have a profound influence upon your healing process. At any moment along the way, you can return to former toxic habits, for example. And you will slip into cycles of pessimism and negativity. You will forget or postpone your commitment to spend ten to fifteen minutes each day in silence, absorbed in grace and prayer, devoted solely to the healing of others and your own well being. If that is not having influence over your health, then what is?
Your next level of influence concerns matters on the more subtle domain of life: Can you influence cosmic decisions? In looking at a person with a serious illness, perhaps even yourself, do we assume that the dye is cast, which is to say, that the Divine has locked in a given plan so that no matter what healing extremes we may go to, nothing can change the inevitable? Is it really possible that we can influence the Divine order of life?
Events do occur that seem to bend or defy the laws of nature for the sake of one individual. Most often they occur when a person has reached a time of desperation, such as a health or a life crisis, and as a result unknowingly breaks through the need to have their problems resolved in a way that protects their earthly security and heals them. Instead, they pray with a sense of faith and abandon, “Whatever it takes to heal, I am willing to do.” They pray, placing no conditions on God as to how their healing should take place.
Your greatest influence is your capacity to transcend your fear of how you should heal, or what should be healed and when. Faith in the Divine – that force you cannot see, cannot understand, cannot name, cannot touch, cannot even comprehend, is your greatest influence in all matters of life, not just your healing or supporting the healing of another.
  • What are your expectations? Identify your expectations as they are burdens and interferences. Do not expect miracles but never doubt them. Do not expect to be rewarded because you are helping others or because you are taking up a daily devotion. The Divine is not a parent who operates on the reward and punishment system. At the same time, trust that from the moment you set your soul on this path, the healing of your life and your capacity to help others heal their life struggles has been set in motion.
  • What are the three dominant patterns of self-sabotage that you will have to confront as you introduce into your life a commitment/devotion to healing that will inevitably empower your life? Identify right from the start the three most common ways you sabotage any and all new projects that would empower you, as this one does. Procrastination is one way, for example. You can tell yourself that you just can’t find fifteen minutes a day for this very important task. But let me point out that if this task had to do with something incredibly pleasurable or financially successful or romantic, you’d find the time with no problem. Name your saboteur patterns at the beginning, because you will have to confront them. Here again, when you wonder how much influence you have over your health, look to your Saboteur archetype and the patterns that cause you to disempower the opportunities for transformation that come into your life. Among those many transforming patterns are the powerful patterns of grace for healing. Most people simply never animate them, choosing instead to sabotage those opportunities for lack of discipline or for various other patterns so typical of the Saboteur archetype.
  • If you stop your healing devotion, do your interfere with your healing? Obviously, you can sabotage you healing, you can become distracted, but you will always want to return to the deepest path of healing that you discover, just as you will always want to experience again the deepest quality of love you once found. Nothing less will ever satisfy your heart again. And the same is true here. Once you have an authentic connection with healing grace, you will crave that connection. Even if you are not praying specifically for yourself but have made a commitment to this group on behalf of others and our global community, still that grace is so compelling that you will want to have that sensation of fearless bliss alive in you again and again.

THE HEALING WORK

  • How do you work with the group? The monthly Salon is our group study guide. We are all learning the same insights and that draws us together intellectually. But prayer draws us together spiritually. Knowing that you are saying at least one common prayer and praying for the same individuals each day, along with one thousand other people, is extraordinary. I will also be evaluating illnesses in each Salon, discussing them from the symbolic perspective and adding thoughts about how to approach the healing of those illnesses. I will be using letters from Salon members for my readings in these instances, with their permission. Let me know if you would like to be in touch with each other and I will open a Healing Forum on my website specifically for people involved in this work.
  • The healing journal, which follows this letter, should be printed out and filled in once a week or filled in on your computer. This journal is a tool of reflection in that the questions are aimed at helping to facilitate your healing and to broaden your definition of what it means to heal. Additionally, some of the questions refer to how well you are maintaining the actual prayer devotion. My fantasy is that you will e-mail copies of your journal to my office once or twice a month to: julie@myss.com. Julie is a CMED graduate of every program, a brilliant intuitive, and a gifted spiritual counselor. She is available as a support person for you, should you need any type of assistance during this year in any form – from personal guidance to requests for different prayers.

In closing, I want to thank you again and again for joining the Healing Work. Remember that nothing is as powerful as entering your Castle and discovering the power of your soul, much less discovering the power that is released through you when heaven begins to work its miracles through you on behalf of others.

Blessings,
Caroline
