The Indentured Servant
Hi, Everybody –
It’s time for another archetype video. And this week, we are doing the indentured servant, an archetype not often thought of. And then, when I mention it in a class, people say that’s me. So I’m going to describe it.
But first, I’m going into a bit of its history and more of an impersonal view of indentured servitude. Its history goes back to the United States, shortly after the Jamestown Colony in Virginia was established in 1619. And while the indentured servant includes the idea of serving, it is forced service. Indentured means I am contracted here, and so I must stay.
Okay, everybody, I hope you enjoy this, and for all of you indentured servants, remember you can end the contract.
Love,
Caroline
