Have you ever awakened in the dark of the middle of the night and wondered what you’re doing with your life? Sometimes you roll over and go back to sleep, sometimes you walk about for a bit in the gloom, and sometimes you turn on the light and do something.
“What does waking up in the middle of the night have to do with identifying and exploring personal archetypes?” you might ask. One answer is that part of life’s journey is discovering your true nature, your passions and your personal stumbling blocks. Since archetypes are symbolic in nature, they are a wonderful tool for getting in touch with your essence and your own sacred contract – what you came into this life to do. Naming and exploring your archetypes can help you turn on your inner light more brightly and deepen or change patterns in your life.
Four of my twelve archetypes (teacher, healer, empath, and scribe) have been key in directing the career portion of my own life’s journey thus far. I have a career in education, certifications as both an ontological and somatic coach, and have written a book. As an archetypal consultant and personal coach, I partner with clients as they move through life transitions. My specialties are refining/redefining personal purpose and working through the challenges of aging and retirement. I whole-heartedly agree with James Garfield who said, “The spirit should never grow old.” Discovering and investigating personal archetypes is a wonderful way to renew spirit.
