The Ghost

Hi, Everybody,

It’s time for another archetype video. Today, I’m doing something a little outrageous. It’s October, and as I was walking around my neighborhood, I saw all of these decorations going up for Halloween. This white house has a gargantuan ghost, and it’s animated. It talks to you as you go by and is supposed to scare you.

This got me thinking about the ghost archetype. And I remember when I was a kid, there was a cartoon called Casper, the Friendly Ghost – the friendly, invisible ghost. We are fascinated with that; there’s no doubt about it—the space between worlds, which leads to the association of a ghost as a soul who has died but not left. It is suspended between incarnations and incomplete for various reasons. And this unfinished business creates a state of ghost-hood.

This theory gives credence to the higher, more sophisticated spiritual teachings that you complete your life because it has purpose and meaning. Every life has purpose and meaning. Choices that challenge your moral or ethical code are unfinished business, fragments of yourself left spinning in this lifetime’s orbit.

So, the emphasis is on living life empowered so your decisions and choices do not fragment or scatter you. You are not constantly, and I choose this word deliberately, haunted by things you’ve chosen.
