The Dark Night of the Soul

I have heard so many people say “I’m going through a dark night.” What I realized a long time ago is that most people who use that phrase did not know where it came from. They didn’t realize they were referring to a mystical experience that was first identified by a Carmelite priest back in the 1500s in Spain. And I thought – have you any idea what you just said? And what if you were identifying it as classical depression when, in fact, it’s a spiritual crisis?

The dark night is only dark because we fear the power of the Light and love in our lives – and this is the journey of encountering our own barriers.
